Walk on by…its a good day to just go for a stroll in the trees. Welcome to the Dollhouse.

Dollhouse pink
Still on the Phoenix POT high and thinking how blessed I am to do what I do and with the people I get to do it with.  Any opportunity to work with Grant and Shawna Korgan is a life changing inspiration for me, and as I was telling Jonathan (the inventor of the CoreAlign) and Kenny (the owner of Balanced Body), we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the amazing tools you have provided us.  As well as a big thanks to Al and Nora for giving us Pilates on Tour!  As a devout POT head and demo queen, you think after putting on 54 of these things, it would get old, but each one gets better and better.  Each POT has a life of it’s own, meeting new people from all around the world eating, laughing, learning, and always being greeting with love and light.
Re-entry isn’t always easy after these things, as coming down from any high, I’m tired, irritable and depressed.  So I turn to WikiHow to come down off a high……
  1. Exercise. it is the best way of getting the THC out of your body. You probably won’t feel up to anything too strenuous, but anything that makes you break a sweat will be a big help.  CHECK!   well our kind of POT is exercise so???
  2.  Splash your face with cold water.  CHECK!  Didn’t really help, but I’m awake now.
  3. Try to be aware of your surroundings. Force yourself to focus on things even though your eyesight may be going a bit hazy.  CHECK!  I thought I was just getting old and needed glasses
  4. Be conscious of your body. Force yourself to move as you normally would.  CHECK!  Heels on, ready to go
  5. Leave the room if there is still any lingering smoke, go somewhere where there’s fresh air, and, if po ssible, breeze.  CHECK!
  6. Sometimes your legs may numb, if this is the case, rub them or splash water on them until feeling returns.
CHECK!  Going paddling this morning, so that should take care of all 6 in one.
If none of the above work, there’s always a burn.  Tonight’s burn is brought to you by Dollhouse.  As we walk through life, sometimes we find we chose the wrong shoes and as with any dollhouse, we eventually outgrow it.  So the pink Dollhouse shoes have seen their last walk with Nancy, but not in vein.  Just as they say when you close one door, another opens, just as you step out of one pair of shoes, you realize how uncomfortable they were and how great being barefoot feels!
Nothing is better for re-entry than getting together with the crew for some love, laughter and to burn shit!
Dollhouse pink …….just walk on by
Whether it’s Dionne Warwick, Diana Krall, Burt Bacharach or Isaac Hayes my favorite version is still by The Stranglers……
If you see me walking down the streets
And I start to cry
Each time we meet
Walk on by
Ah walk on by
Make believe
I can see the tears
Now let me grieve in private
Cause each time I see you
I just want to cry
Walk on by
Walk on by
Walk on byI just can’t get over loosing you
And so if I seem so broken in pieces
Walk on by
Aah walk on by
With foolish pride
If I can’t see the tears
Let me hide
From the tears and the sadness
When you said goodbyeWalk on by
Walk on by
Walk on by
Just go for a stroll in the treesWalk on by
Ah walk on by
And make believe
That I can’t see the tears
Now let me grieve in private
Cause each time I see you
I break down and cry
Walk on by

Walking on “Easter” eggshells with the Sisters of perpetual indulgence and #hunkyjesus

me and Melissa on my new ride

Well it’s no secret that my favorite part of “Easter” is the hunky jesus contest at Dolores Beach with the sisters after brunch with the Puerto famillia and a walk in the rain.

easter-2013 with the sisters    hunky_jesus-250x166  Come rain or shine, they bring the fun to the celebration of Spring.

Thanks to Mr. Jonathan for the mother goddess spring outfit.  After all, what does christ have to do with it?  I usually try to stay away from discussions of religion and politics, at least in a public forum, but my filters these days have worn incredibly thin.

And instead of an easter bonnet, of course I opted for my easter blue shoes.  Not in much need of Easter blue these days, but it was Easter and the Vans were blue and I can pretend my heart isn’t black, at least for today.   me and Melissa on my new ride

mustang blue Maybe I should trade up the Vans for this little number.

me and Melissa on my new ride  Or maybe me and M are perfectly happy.

Me, Isa and Melissa  Another anniversary Easter with my two favorite girls and some hunky jesus, what could be more perfect?

The pagan roots of Easter

From Ishtar to Eostre, the roots of the resurrection story go deep. We should embrace the pagan symbolism of East

Easter is a pagan festival. If Easter isn’t really about Jesus, then what is it about? Today, we see a secular culture celebrating the spring equinox, whilst religious culture celebrates the resurrection. However, early Christianity made a pragmatic acceptance of ancient pagan practises, most of which we enjoy today at Easter. The general symbolic story of the death of the son (sun) on a cross (the constellation of the Southern Cross) and his rebirth, overcoming the powers of darkness, was a well worn story in the ancient world. There were plenty of parallel, rival resurrected saviours too.

The Sumerian goddess Inanna, or Ishtar, was hung naked on a stake, and was subsequently resurrected and ascended from the underworld. One of the oldest resurrection myths is Egyptian Horus. Born on 25 December, Horus and his damaged eye became symbols of life and rebirth. Mithras was born on what we now call Christmas day, and his followers celebrated the spring equinox. Even as late as the 4th century AD, the sol invictus, associated with Mithras, was the last great pagan cult the church had to overcome. Dionysus was a divine child, resurrected by his grandmother. Dionysus also brought his mum, Semele, back to life.

In an ironic twist, the Cybele cult flourished on today’s Vatican Hill. Cybele’s lover Attis, was born of a virgin, died and was reborn annually. This spring festival began as a day of blood on Black Friday, rising to a crescendo after three days, in rejoicing over the resurrection. There was violent conflict on Vatican Hill in the early days of Christianity between the Jesus worshippers and pagans who quarrelled over whose God was the true, and whose the imitation. What is interesting to note here is that in the ancient world, wherever you had popular resurrected god myths, Christianity found lots of converts. So, eventually Christianity came to an accommodation with the pagan Spring festival. Although we see no celebration of Easter in the New Testament, early church fathers celebrated it, and today many churches are offering “sunrise services” at Easter – an obvious pagan solar celebration. The date of Easter is not fixed, but instead is governed by the phases of the moon – how pagan is that?

All the fun things about Easter are pagan. Bunnies are a leftover from the pagan festival of Eostre, a great northern goddess whose symbol was a rabbit or hare. Exchange of eggs is an ancient custom, celebrated by many cultures. Hot cross buns are very ancient too. In the Old Testament we see the Israelites baking sweet buns for an idol, and religious leaders trying to put a stop to it. The early church clergy also tried to put a stop to sacred cakes being baked at Easter. In the end, in the face of defiant cake-baking pagan women, they gave up and blessed the cake instead.

Easter is essentially a pagan festival which is celebrated with cards, gifts and novelty Easter products, because it’s fun and the ancient symbolism still works. It’s always struck me that the power of nature and the longer days are often most felt in modern towns and cities, where we set off to work without putting on our car headlights and when our alarm clock goes off in the mornings, the streetlights outside are not still on because of the darkness.

What better way to celebrate, than to bite the head off the bunny goddess, go to a “sunrise service”, get yourself a sticky-footed fluffy chick and stick it on your TV, whilst helping yourself to a hefty slice of pagan simnel cake? Happy Easter everyone!

Walk on the Ocean to Chimo with @ehspilates #Mexico

Mexico March 2013 123

Mexico March 2013 120 Two hours of Pilates in the morning today to make time for a lobster lunch on the beach in Chimo….where everything is better and everything is safe.  Walk on the ocean, step on the stones, flesh becomes water, wood becomes bone.

Mexico March 2013 119  El Chimo is a small fishing village just inside the southern point of the bay, Cabo Corientes.  The fishermen go out very early and their catch will end up at the fresh fish stalls in Puerto Vallarta and on our lunch table.

Mexico March 2013 116 They pick us in in hand carved canoes and shuttle us to shore for “ensalda de gorro”.  Gorro is a small round flattened cone shaped shellfish like a chinese hat that are found on the rocks around Chimo.

Mexico March 2013 114  Mexico March 2013 115 and of course some lobster

Mexico March 2013 109  Mexico March 2013 112  a few pacificos and a little after lunch siesta

Mexico March 2013 118  and a ride back to our boat

Mexico March 2013 121 Sadly, our last sunset in Yelapa, at least for this trip…..

Mexico March 2013 123  and our last dance party on the boat ride back kept our little friend Davidson entertained while he was learning how to drive.

Now back at the homestead, where the air makes you choke, People don’t know you, trust is a joke, Don’t even have pictures, just memories to hold, Grows sweeter each season, as we slowly grow old.

Walk on The Ocean Lyrics

Toad The Wet Sprocket

We spotted the ocean at the head of the trailWhere are we going, so far away?Somebody told me this is the placeWhere every thing’s better and every thing’s safe
Walk on the ocean, step on the stonesFlesh becomes water, wood becomes bone
Half and hour later, packed up our thingsSaid, we’d send letters and all of those little thingsAnd they knew we were lying but they smiled just the sameSeemed they’d already forgotten we’d came
Walk on the ocean, step on the stonesFlesh becomes water, wood becomes bone
Walk on the ocean, step on the stonesFlesh becomes water, wood becomes bone
Now back at the homestead, where the air makes you chokePeople don’t know you, trust is a jokeDon’t even have pictures, just memories to holdGrows sweeter each season, as we slowly grow old

I’m walkin on sunshine in #Mexico with @ehspilates

Mexico March 2013 104

Walkin’ on Sunshine in Yelapa, what could be better?  Instead of a traditional pilates class today, we took it to the beach with some footwork in the sand.  Why does barefoot walking in the sand make you feel better?  Your immune system works better with an adequate supply of electrons, which we get from the earth.   Yea, I know it sounds woo woo, but there is scientific evidence to prove it.  Living direct contact with the earth grounds your body, inducing favorable physiological and eletrophysiological changes that promote optimal health.  Add some vitamin D to the mix and we’re ready to roll.  Fresh air, sunshine, sand, laughter, good food, good tequila, good friends and throw some horse therapy in and I think we’ve found the road to Energy, Health Strength…..South.

Rebanada de la vida.

Mexico March 2013 102

Mexico March 2013 103The view from my office today does not suck.

Mexico March 2013 106 Another visit from Augustina, the famous Pie Lady of Yelapa, kind of what the Tamale Lady is to SF.  We need to get them together, that would make me very happy.

Mexico March 2013 108 Our walk today is up to the school where the little ones are putting on a performance for the first day of Spring, a big celebration in Yelapa.

Mexico March 2013 104 Of course we wouldn’t miss our sunset Pilates in celebration of Spring with a little mermaid around the May pole.

Viva la Spring!

Walk 500 miles with @ehspilates in Yelapa #Mexico on the Marietta Islands

Mexico March 2013 093

It feels like we’ve walked 500 miles, so after morning Pilates we jet off to the Marietta Islands where a few decide to get a closer look at our underwater friends in Yelapa and do some snorkeling.  Along the way we see sea turtles and whales and of course our local friendly resident, the blue-footed booby and some much deserved beach time!

Mexico March 2013 058  Mexico March 2013 064  Marietta snorkeling  220px-Booby

The Blue-footed Booby (Sula nebouxii) is a bird in the genus Sula, which comprises six boobies. It is easily recognizable by its distinctive bright blue feet, which is a sexually selected trait. Males display their feet in an elaborate mating ritual by lifting one and then the other up, while strutting before the female. Both males and females prefer mates with brighter feet and adjust their parental investment based on the attractiveness of their mate. The natural breeding habitat of the Blue-footed Booby is tropical and subtropical islands of the Pacific Ocean. Their range extends from the Gulf of California down along the western coasts of Central and South America to Peru. From about a third to a half of all breeding pairs nest on the Galápagos Islands.

Mexico March 2013 062Michele kicks back for the ride

Mexico March 2013 068Gotta love when the boys cook for you!  They catch fish on the way and prepare a ceviche lunch for us on the beach.

Mexico March 2013 070these guys can’t wait for lunch either

Mexico March 2013 073   Mexico March 2013 093   Mexico March 2013 072   Mexico March 2013 079

Had some beautiful beach time while exploring the island.  Big hugs, much love, until next year.

Walkin down the road in #Mexico with @ehspilates in Yelapa

Mexico March 2013 060

Today, I’m walkin down the road, “but it can’t be heaven ’cause the streets aren’t gold.”  Today we take the horses up to another waterfall.  Our little Jess needed some therapy on her hip so we use the horses today for some gait therapy.

Mexico March 2013 052our guide  Mexico March 2013 053my horse  Mexico March 2013 051Miss Deena

Hippotherapy is a form of physical, occupational and speech therapy in which a therapist uses the characteristic movements of a horse to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input. A foundation is established to improve neurological function and sensory processing, which can be generalized to a wide range of daily activities. Unlike therapeutic horseback riding (where specific riding skills are taught), the movement of the horse is a means to a treatment goal when utilizing hippotherapy as a treatment strategy.

Back in time for sunset pilates and some hydration from the chilled coconuts that the boys at Lagunitas climbed up to get for us this morning.  They take such good care of us!

Mexico March 2013 055  Tonight’s entertainment, straight from Brazil.

Who knew all Jess needed was a big hairy beast between her legs to solve all her hip problems.  Now she has to break it to her husband that not only does she need another CoreAlign, but also a horse.  She certainly put that new hip to good use and danced the night away.

Walkin’ On Down The Road Lyrics

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Well I’m walking on down the road But it can’t be heaven ’cause the streets aren’t gold And everybody knows what Bobby D was told I’m walkin’ on down the road
Groovin’ a tune straight out of the womb’ Cause trust is a must to be a true blue dude That’s a matter of fact, don’t be confused Well everybody knows true friends are few
Everybody come in, everybody sing, sing my song Everybody knows and everybody thinks that I’ve done wrong Everybody come in, everybody sing, sing my song
Well I’m walking on down the roadBut it can’t be heaven ’cause the streets aren’t goldAnd everybody knows what Bobby D was toldI’m walkin’ on down the road
A like a momma bear hugs her baby bear cubsA dude he can’t lose when he lives on loveLike the bark on a tree, like the skin on my kneesI’m standin’ by my blood
Everybody come in, everybody sing, sing my songEverybody knows and everybody thinks that I’ve done wrongEverybody come in, everybody sing, sing my song
Everybody come in, everybody sing, sing my songEverybody knows and everybody thinks that I’ve done wrongEverybody come in, everybody sing, sing my song
Well I’m walking on down the roadBut it can’t be heaven ’cause the streets aren’t goldAnd everybody knows what Bobby D was toldI’m walkin’ on down the roadI’m walkin’ on down the roadI’m walkin’ on down the road

Walk of life @ehspilates #Mexico

Mexico March 2013 041

Always good to be back in paradise and none too soon.  Hand me down my walkin’ shoes cause after morning Pilates class, we’re hiking over to Isabel’s beach and all the way up to Verona.

I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing group and take the walk of life along with them today.

Mexico March 2013 035  Mexico March 2013 036 Mexico March 2013 040  Mexico March 2013 041

There are the locals we always love to run into Mexico March 2013 038 and those we don’t. Mexico March 2013 039

Yes… Yelapa has scorpions, 8 different kinds. Good chances are that you will never see one. They live under brush and in crevices and in general, spots that are not usually touched.  That being said, there was one brought in on the firewood for our bonfire on the beach and one of the boys from the flight school was stung on the hand.  Luckily, it was no more that that of a bee sting.  If you do see one, they are about two inches long and are usually golden, in color. Scorpions can move fast but are not aggressive and will run from you. Basic precautions are to wear shoes at night and to not hang towels over areas that touch the ground. Avoid placing wet towels or clothes, on the floor without inspecting them when picking them up.  General rule of thumb, don’t put your hands anywhere that your eyes haven’t been first.

Appreciating every step and those I get to do it with in the walk of life.

Dire Straits Walk Of Life Lyrics

 Songwriters: KNOPFLER, MARK
Here comes Johnny singing oldies, goldies
Be-Bop-A-Lula, Baby What I Say
Here comes Johnny singing I Gotta Woman
Down in the tunnels, trying to make it pay
He got the action, he got the motion
Oh Yeah the boy can play
Dedication devotion
Turning all the night time into the dayHe do the song about the sweet lovin’ woman
He do the song about the knife
He do the walk, he do the walk of life, yeah he do the walk of lifeHere comes Johnny and he’ll tell you the story
Hand me down my walkin’ shoes
Here comes Johnny with the power and the glory
Backbeat the talkin’ blues
He got the action, he got the motion
Oh Yeah the boy can play
Dedication devotion
Turning all the night time into the dayHe do the song about the sweet lovin’ woman
He do the song about the knife
He do the walk, he do the walk of life, yeah he do the walk of lifeHere comes Johnny singing oldies, goldies
Be-Bop-A-Lula, Baby What I Say
Here comes Johnny singing I Gotta Woman
Down in the tunnels, trying to make it pay
He got the action, he got the motion
Oh Yeah the boy can play
Dedication devotion
Turning all the night time into the day

And after all the violence and double talk
There’s just a song in all the trouble and the strife
You do the walk, you do the walk of life, yeah he do the walk of life

Every little step @ehspilates #Mexico

Mexico March 2013 034

Great to see old friends and meet new ones and get to know everyone over a great orientation dinner, which of course includes much tequila, much laughter and much dancing.  After all, it is all about balance now isn’t it?

Morning Pilates in the palapa in Yelapa, then a walk on the beach, through town and up to the waterfall as I watch every little step.

BOBBY BROWN LYRICS

“Every Little Step”

Good Lovin’…

Ow! Yeah!I can’t sleep at night, I toss and turn
Listenin’ for the telephone
But when I get your call I’m all choked up
Can’t believe you called my home
And as a matter of fact, it blows my mind
You would even talk to me
Because a girl like you is a dream come true
A real life fantasy

No matter what your friends try to tell ya
We were made to fall in love
And we will be together, any kind of weather
It’s like that, it’s like that

Every little step I take
You will be there
Every little step I make
We’ll be together

Every little step I take
You will be there
Every little step I make
We’ll be together

I can’t sleep at night, I toss and turn
Listenin’ for the telephone
But when I get your call I’m all choked up
Can’t believe you called my home
And as a matter of fact, it blows my mind
You would even talk to me
Because a girl like you is a dream come true
A real life fantasy

No matter what your friends try to tell ya
We were made to fall in love
And we will be together, any kind of weather
It’s like that, it’s like that

Every little step I take
You will be there
Every little step I make
We’ll be together

Every little step I take
You will be there
Every little step I make
We’ll be together

Every little…woo!
Every little step I…
Every little step (Every little…every little step I take)

Girl…good lovin’…
Good lovin’…

Mexico March 2013 032 Of course as I’m trying my best to get them to focus on class, just outside on the beach there is a celebration with air lanterns.  lantern1  Also known as a sky lantern, Chinese lantern or Kongming lantern,  is a small hot air balloon made of paper, with an opening at the bottom where a small fire is suspended looking in the night sky like a stairway to heaven.  In Asia and elsewhere, sky lanterns have been traditionally made for centuries, to be launched for play or as part of festivities.  The name “sky lantern” is a translation of the Chinese name ti?n d?ng (????). Sky lanterns have also been referred to as sky candles.

You see them often in Yelapa on the beach as part of celebrations of all kinds.  They had them at Isabel’s wake and let them go as stairway to freebird played and it really did look like a stairway built for her to light her way to heaven.

ROBERT PLANT LYRICS

“Walking Towards Paradise”
Hearts on fire – burning fast
Love, desire – make sweet love last
This one we’ll sing now
Soon you’ll finally see all this mystery
Wouldn’t it be nice – wouldn’t it be nice
(Walking towards paradise)
(Walking towards paradise)On days like this, nights confirm
You know so much – so much to learn
Soon you’ll finally see all this mystery
Wouldn’t it be nice – wouldn’t it be nice
(Walking towards paradise)
(Walking towards paradise –)Come with me – now come with me
(Walking towards paradise)

Move it! @EHSpilates heads to #Mexico

Mexico March 2013 002

“Consciousness is only possible through change; change is only possible through movement.”

Aldous HuxleyThe Art of Seeing

Three years ago I was stuck in so many ways and thanks to Nancy, a massage therapist I met in Yelapa many years ago, I was able to move again, not just physically, but mentally and spiritually.  Also many thanks to Tracey my business partner, who forced me to go see Nancy, those 13 who were on our retreat who made me laugh harder than I’ve ever laughed in my life and my Yelapa family for helping me ground in order to fly.

Unfortunately Nancy passed soon after, but her spirit still soars in Yelapa along with Isabel’s.  We are about to head out to our annual EHS Pilates and movement therapy retreat in Yelapa, Mexico with an incredible group.

We make it to PV in time to check in with our old friend Sergio at the Lagunita’s office and pick up some supplies at the farmer’s market.

Anyone needing some hand rolled cuban’s for the “Top Smoke” competiton on the Playa?  I know a guy…

Of course we couldn’t leave PV without a salute to the Mexican flag with a bandera.  Inspired by the colors of the Mexican flag, this drink; 3 separate shot glasses consisting of tequila (white), fresh lime juice (green), and sangrita (red)-a spicy tomato-based chaser.  Of which our new friend Jupiter is a big fan, but I think he prefers the pomegranate margarita.  He has a wicked drinking problem, but he’s awfully cute.

Off to grab a bite at Joe’s Fish Shack and catch our first sunset.

Spacegrass

Ok, so mine is a 1971, not ’73, but this guy walked by today and said “Clutch-Spacegrass, check it out”.  So here we are.

Dodge Swinger 1973, Galaxy 500,
All the way stars’ green, gotta go.
Dodge Swinger 1973, top down, chassis low,
Panel dim, light drive, Jesus on the dashboard.
T-minus whenever it feels right, Galaxy 500.
Planets align, a king is born.Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels rightDodge Swinger 1973, top down, chassis free,
Buzz Aldrin, Armstrong, or maybe just me.
Don’t worry, it’s coming.
Don’t worry, it’s coming.
Jesus on the dashboard.

Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
I turn on the radio.

Hey kid, are you going my way?
Hop in, we’ll have ourselves a field day.
We’ll find us some spacegrass,
Lay low, watch the universe expand.
Skyway, permanent Saturday.
Oh, by the way, Saturn is my rotary.
Hop in, it’ll be eternity
Till we make it to M83.

Once around the Sun, cruising, climbing.
Jupiter cyclops winks at me, yeah, he knows who’s driving.
Hit neutral in the tail of a comet.
Let the vortex pull my weight.
Push the seat back a little lower.
Watch light bend in the blower.
Planets align.
A king is born.
Dodge Swinger.
Jesus on the dashboard.

Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right

walk right in, walk right out

LA boots from Culver CityIn life, there are no accidents, people come in and out of our lives for a reason.  There’s always a reason or lesson in all relationships and interactions.  Ever felt inexplicably drawn to someone?  As if there was a light in these people, they have an energy or something to offer us or something we need to know.  This can also happen when someone is “bad” for us, we keep going back…over and over again.  We know we shouldn’t, but the energy pull is unavoidable.  No matter, either way, there are always lessons to be learned.  Every relationship, good or bad, takes us to places within ourselves and teaches us something, whether we choose to listen and learn or not.

Thinking about those that have had the most profound impact on my life, what brought them into my life and what I’ve learned or still need to learn.  Thank you all.

Walk Right In, Walk Right Out lyrics

Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers

Daddy, let your mind roll on

Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on

Everybody’s talkin’ ’bout a new way of walkin’
Do you want to lose your mind?
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on

Walk right in, sit right down
Baby, let your hair hang down
Walk right in, sit right down
Baby, let your hair hang down

Everybody’s talkin’ ’bout a new way of walkin’
Do you want to lose your mind?
Walk right in, sit right down
Baby, let your hair hang down

Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on

Everybody’s talkin’ ’bout a new way of walkin’
Do you want to lose your mind?
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Daddy, let your mind roll on

Daddy, let your mind roll on
Walk right in, sit right down

Walk Tall #whatareyoudoingtoparticiapte?

LA spike heelsLots of songs talk about walking tall and I talk to my clients about it every day, even though somedays, it feels almost impossible.

“Walk Tall like a woman should, walk tall ya you knew I would”–The InCiters

People’s choice of words always fascinates me.  Especially those that use their words to hurt or tear others down to make themselves feel better or more important, when it’s really just as simple to use words to help others feel better.

How deep does the rabbit hole go? #whatareyoudoingtoparticipate

Shirley's tennies

Ever feel like your life has a sound track?  ”When you turn on your stereo, Does it return the favor?”  If not it’s time to change the channel.  Tracey is always saying don’t go down the rabbit hole and today someone questioned “how deep does the rabbit hole go?”  Never know until you jump.  Sometimes it’s good to get lost down the rabbit hole in order to change and grow.

Lyrics in this song came up more than once today.  My client asked me this morning “when was the last time you did something for the first time?  Good question and it took me a minute.  Then I actually could think of quite a few firsts over the last two years but made me think I need more, more than just the day to day.  What’s your next first?  Don’t wait, don’t put it off, life is too short for somedays, I’m planning my next first right now.  ”A simple question concerning time:  ”Suppose you wait forever, and then you change your mind?”

Let go of all your preconceived notions of what should or shouldn’t be, appreciate what is and not you think should be.  For as long as I can remember my mother would say “I’m too old for that”.   Well if you think you are, then it’s true.

Get up, unplug, get out, take a walk, try something new.

Today I’m going to try and see life through Shirley’s eyes, who has so many first ahead of her and thank you to her grandmother Tina @Minna Nails for always keeping my feet fabulous!

Van Halen The Trouble With Never Lyrics

Songwriters: ROTH, DAVID LEE / VAN HALEN, EDWARD / VAN HALEN, ALEX / VAN HALEN, WOLFGANG
You often wonder,
You wanna know.
How deep does
The rabbit hole go?I know you never thought about it
But ask yourself later:
When you turn on your stereo
Does it return the favor?I gotta know! That’s the trouble with never,
(It) sure seems like a mighty long time.
That’s the trouble with never.
When was the last time
You did something for the first time?Hello!Every Einstein’s assigned
A Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber.
Any old fool could see,
Never even wonder.Yeah we could come together.
I will call for you.
Hey, never’s good for me.
How’s never sound to you? That’s the trouble with never,
(It) sure may be a mighty long time.
That’s the trouble with never.
When was the last time
You did something for the first time?Yeah!
Level with me baby!
Talk to me!This could
Damage your reputation:
My wicked wicked ways,But maybe I just will
Since you put it that way.

Delusions of eloquence?
You never can say.

You wanna play
The game?
You can’t quit when you get played.

“Mistakes make people.”
Isn’t that what people say?

Let’s un-plan the moment,
Dance the night away.

Selective amnesia
Is only a heartbeat away.

A simple question
Concerning time:
“Suppose you wait forever
And then you change your mind?”

Oh, No!

That’s the trouble with never,
Sure could be a mighty long time.
That’s the trouble with never.
When was the last time
You did something for the first time?

When was it?
When was it?
Ah, text me baby!

When baby?
Tell me!
When was the last time baby?
Show me!

Under the Boardwalk #whatareyoudoingtoparticipate?

me and Isa santa cruz boardwalk feb 2013

Amazing weather and finally a day off with my Spicie Rose even with the full blown teenage eye rolling, we had a blast at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk today!

Remember those 7,000 nerve endings in your feet?  Well walking on the beach is the best thing for them.  Hear that Mr. J?  Forget you live by the beach?  Get up, get out and take a walk in the sand, “on a blanket with my baby is where I’ll be”.  Aside from the people watching and the beautiful view, walking on the beach takes more effort than walking on a hard flat surface, it works the smaller muscles of your feet and calfs.  Don’t like the feeling of sand between your toes or afraid you might step on something?  Then go ahead, wear those tevas or the vibram five fingers, I won’t tell anyone you own a pair.  Oh, and take that grumpy teenager with you, next thing you know they will be making sand angels and forget what you were ever arguing about.

And Sunday at noon, don’t forget to come get your CoreAlign-ed with me @EHSpilates and then some SUP on the bay!  If you can’t make Sunday, we have CoreAlign classes all week….www.ehspilates.com

The Drifters
Under The Boardwalk lyrics

Oh, when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof

And your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fire-proof
Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah
On a blanket with my baby is where I’ll be(Under the boardwalk) out of the sun
(Under the boardwalk) we’ll be havin’ some fun
(Under the boardwalk) people walking above
(Under the boardwalk) we’ll be faling in love
Under the board-walk (board-walk!)

From the park you hear the happy sound of a carousel
Mm-mm, you can almost taste the hot dogs and French fries they sell
Under the boardwalk, down by the sea
On a blanket with my baby is where I’ll be

(Under the boardwalk) out of the sun
(Under the boardwalk) we’ll be havin’ some fun
(Under the boardwalk) people walking above
(Under the boardwalk) we’ll be falling in love
Under the board-walk (board-walk!)

[break]

Oooooh, under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah
On a blanket with my baby is where I’ll be

(Under the boardwalk) out of the sun
(Under the boardwalk) we’ll be havin’ some fun
(Under the boardwalk) people walking above
(Under the boardwalk) we’ll be falling in love
Under the board-walk (board-walk!)

Walk #whatareyoudoingtoparticiapte?

Valentine's in Happyville

my left footLife is full of first steps.  We fall, we start again.  Sometimes we forget and have to learn all over again.  Whether literally or figuratively, everyone experiences set backs and needs to learn to stand, walk, run, climb and dance again.

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase”. -Martin Luther King

He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance.-Friedrich Nietzsche

I’m learning to walk again, I’ve waited long enough…..now to find the right shoes.  Obviously these are not the right ones, my day started off with the wrong Valentine’s Day shoes.  But just when I was starting my pity party, my client said after her session, “thank you, I feel much better, now I’m going to go change the world”  and I just bet she will.

valentine's broken shoesThen I got to spend dinner with my besties and my favorite Spicie Valentine on a beautiful night by firelight.  Thanks to Mission Minis for the cupcake apron, it helped my Martha Stewart come out of retirement, alt least for the night.me and Isa on Valentine's Day

Then it all went horribly wrong, or maybe it was just our need to process the past in order to move forward.  Sorry Rev. James, the chocolate cat became the sacrificial lamb to all our past relationships, besides, you know we ate the chocolate first.  It should have been those shoes that went into the fire.  Thanks to all my friends for a lovely evening and to my Isa for being the fire in my heart.

Valentine's in Happyville

FOO FIGHTERS LYRICS

“Walk”
A million miles away
Your signal in the distance
To whom it may concern
I think I lost my way
Getting good at starting over
Every time that I returnI’m learning to walk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
Where do I begin?
I’m learning to talk again
Can’t you see I’ve waited long enough?
Where do I begin?Do you remember the days
We built these paper mountains
And sat and watched them burn?
I think I found my place
Can’t you feel it growing stronger?
Little conquerorsI’m learning to walk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
Where do I begin?
I’m learning to talk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
Where do I begin?Now
For the very first time
Don’t you pay no mind?
Set me free again
You keep alive a moment at a time
But still inside a whisper to a riot
To sacrifice but knowing to survive
The first decline another state of mind
I’m on my knees, I’m praying for a sign
Forever, whenever
I never wanna die
I never wanna die
I never wanna die
I’m on my knees
I never wanna die
I’m dancing on my grave
I’m running through the fire
Forever, whatever
I never wanna die
I never wanna leave
I’ll never say goodbye
Forever, whatever
Forever, whateverI’m learning to walk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
Where do I begin?
I’m learning to talk again
Can’t you see I’ve waited long enough?
Where do I begin?I’m learning to walk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
I’m learning to talk again
Can’t you see I’ve waited long enough?

Walk the walk

two-feet-back

“In life, it’s human nature to fall down, the magic happens when we get back up”.–Grant Korgan

Grant and Shawna continue to motivate and inspire me both in my work and my personal life.  To walk the walk means to back up one’s talk with action and regardless of limitations, Grant brings it everyday in every way.  I always quote Tim Kerr and ask “what are you doing to participate?”  ’Talking’ is indeed an ineffectual alternative to ‘walking’.  Get up, get out and make a difference in someone’s life today, even if it’s your own.
